Two Sentence Reviews: February Reads

My February reading goal was ten books and, well, I didn't hit that. That's ok, though, because I'm still two reads ahead of where I need to be to stay on track to hit 100 reads this year. Six more reads down, bringing my yearly total to 18 reads - here's my two sentence reviews so you know what to add to your bookshelf!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab - A whimsical, dark, and intriguing read - Addie made a deal with the devil that doomed her to create an unforgettable life that wasn't memorable to anyone but her. For 300+ years, Addie gets erased from the world around her... until she meets Henry.

Upstairs at the White House by J.B. West - Take a step back in time through the eyes of a White House Chief Usher who worked through the Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations. Colorful stories behind the walls of the White House make this a great read.

Friends and Strangers by J. Courtney Sullivan - A complicated relationship between two women at very different stages of life - Elisabeth and Sam are a relatable pair for anyone craving companionship. A new mother and a college student, I think so many people can relate to the struggles this friendship faces.

On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong - A vulnerable, emotional, tense, and graceful letter from a son to his mother who can not read. Tracing family history, life as a gay man, exploring love, abuse, masculinity, and sacrifice - this is a moving and haunting read.

Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler - A box of returned mementos that gave life to a relationship, returned with letters from an ex-girlfriend to her ex-boyfriend. The read is charming and cute, but also skews a bit young as it goes through the highs and lows of a high school relationship.

Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan - An Irish expat finds herself in Hong Kong entangled in a love triangle with a male banker and a female lawyer. Truly - I hated this read... so I have no second sentence to review with here.

My March goal is to get through ten books, stay tuned for next month’s two sentence reviews!
